1950s Music History in Lamby's Words
What Happened in the 1950s?
There was a lot of stuff going on in the world back in the 1950s, but this Lamb won't talk about most of those things because they are sad and scary and not very good for happy spreading. I'm supposed to be learning for teaching Little Tiger, but Dad says not to worry about the scary stuff that happened. Wars and bombs and hateful talking and fingerpointing and cruel hurtings of people with different skin color. He said that can wait for grown-up school. This Lamb will sum up the 1950s with this: Red Scare Conservative Family Economy Upswing Ike in Office Hula Hoops on Television Lone Howdy Doody Ranger with Ozzy and Harriet, Beaver Poodle Skirts, Elvis Pressley, Marilyn Monroe, Duck-n-Cover Shelter, Sputnik Rock-n-Roll Bye-Bye Miss American Pie.
Rock-n-Roll Happened in the 1950s
This was very important for the world, and this Lamb has been in the studio singing songs from then. We couldn't
do them all, but we could do a lot to show you what it all sounded like
back then. Sam Cooke, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Bobby Darin, Ritchie
Valens, Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers,
the Drifters. And lots of them songs are about teenage crazy
time with fast car racing and first love crushes and big drama with breaking
hearts and dying from break-ups and crying cause it's your party. And
then there's a bunch of silly stuff. Monster Mashy stuff, Teeny Bikini
Purple People Eatin' stuff. Too much for this
Lamb. Yep, there a lot of changes, but on February
3, 1959, a plane crashed near Clear
Lake, Iowa. This very sad time's called "The Day the Music Died" because
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The
Big Bopper were on board. A not-happy way to end the
1950s, but nothing like the stuff that was going on in the 1960s.
Dad won't even let me hear about most of it until I'm older, which seems
like a very long time away.
